HOUSE RESOLUTION 10

Calling upon the Governor and the Office of Emergency Services
to develop an emergency plan to protect senior and infirm
citizens in case of power outages.
Whereas, The State has a responsibility to provide for its
senior and infirm citizens; and
Whereas, The State needs to be prepared to assist these
citizens when power outages in freezing weather occur; and
Whereas, The House of Delegates feels there should be a
specific plan in place so that these citizens may be promptly
assisted in when such emergencies occur; therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That the House of Delegates calls upon the Governor and the
Office of Emergency Services to:
(1) Maintain an inventory of federal, state and local public
facilities in each county that have power generators and that are
appropriate to transport senior and infirm citizens to in case of
power outages in freezing weather or other emergency situations;
(2) Develop a plan for transporting senior and infirm citizens to the facilities; and
(3) Identify personnel that will coordinate the use of the
facilities when needed for the emergencies; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates
is directed to send a copy of this resolution to the Governor and
the Office of Emergency Services.
